Doug Collins officially announced as next coach

As a Sixers’ fan, it seemed like mediocrity was a right.  But last year, [fired coach] Eddie Jordan proved that mediocrity wasn’t as much of a lock as it appeared.  The Sixers could actually do worse.  Much worse.  So fear not, folks, a plan is in motion to return the Sixers to rightful place of mediocrity.

Last night, the NBA held its lottery to determine the NBA Draft order for the non-playoff teams and the Philadelphia 76ers have improved their draft position to second overall.  In addition, the team (New Jersey) that had the most ping-pong balls ended up with the third overall pick so the Sixers will be the first Atlantic Division team to draft.  (Washington won the lottery.)

The Sixers aren’t going to contact Byron Scott in regards to the coaching vacancy created by the dismissal of Eddie Jordan last month, according to Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer.  Scott, who coached the Nets when Ed Stefanski was the GM there, would have been interested in discussing the opening.  Over the course of his coaching career, Scott is three games under .500 (352-355), but he was the NBA’s Coach of the Year in the 2007-2008 season when he lead the Hornets to a 56-26 record.

Prospect Profile: John Wall

Despite finishing second in Player of the Year voting to Ohio State’s Evan Turner, the consensus top overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft will be Kentucky point guard John Wall.  Essentially Wall, who was top-rated high school prospect in 2009, was penciled in as this year’s top pick before he had even played his first game in a Kentucky uniform.  Oh, and by the way, he knocked down the winning jumper in that victory.
