Sixers to workout B.J. Mullens

June 19th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |

The Philadelphia 76ers hold the 17th selection in the first round of this year’s NBA draft.

And, with Andre Miller set to become a free agent, everyone knows that the Sixers are going to draft a (point) guard, right?

But, as ESPN’s college football analyst Lee Corso would say, “not so fast my friends.”

Per Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers will work out Ohio State freshman center B.J. Mullens Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

There have been some rumors floating about a possible trade of Samuel Dalembert (dare to dream) to Charlotte in exchange for Vladimir Radmanovich and Nazr Mohammed.

Based on the rumor, the Sixers would also get the Bobcats second-round pick or swap first-round picks.  (The Bobcats hold the 12th pick.)

By bringing in Mullens for a workout, the Dalembert-to-Charlotte rumors could build some momentum.  Of course, Stefanski says he doesn’t “talk about trades. We are talking to a lot of teams, especially before the draft.”

It’s unlikely that the Sixers will be able to move Dalembert even to a squad led by former coach Larry Brown, who drafted Dalembert when he was in Philly.

Per DraftExpress.com, Mullens strengths include his huge upside, athleticism and NBA body.  However, his weaknesses include his defense and his “questionable” intangibles and he’s not ready to contribute immediately.
