Sixers to sign Primoz Brezec
August 5th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |The Philadelphia 76ers are about to add center Primoz Brezec to the roster. According to Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Sixers and Brezec have agreed in principal to a contract that will pay him the veteran minimum for a player that has been in the league for seven years.
“I think Primoz will fit in well in [new coach] Eddie Jordan’s system because he’s a shooter, he can pick and pop, and he’s savvy,” [Brezec's agent] Cornstein told Jasner. “He gives them insurance and flexibility up front.”
Regardless of your opinion about the Sixers drafting Jrue Holiday and Holiday’s lack of readiness to take over for the departed Andre Miller, this and the team’s other move (trading Reggie Evans for Jason Kapono) were both solid moves.
For the league minimum, Brezec provides what the Sixers need most (shooting). Or, at least, their most pressing need before they lost Andre Miller to the via agency and to the Blazers.
