September 15th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |The Philadelphia 76ers have officially re-signed Rodney Carney, who was their first-round pick in 2006. “This is a good team, and I’m actually happy to be a part of it. Hopefully, I can bring my energy off the bench, athleticism, and 3-point shooting,” Carney said. Last year, Carney made 79 three-pointers for Minnesota.

Tommy Beer of HoopsWorld.com likes guard Lou Williams and power forward Elton Brand in fantasy drafts. Beer points out that Williams’ average for 36 minutes per game is 19.5 points, 4.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. On the flip side, he’s a less than 40% shooter that only has a 3:2 assist-to-turnover ratio. For Brand, he argues that his fantasy stock is at an all-time low after two injury-plagued years and an inability to fit well into the Sixers’ offense last year. But he expects Brand to post numbers in the range of his career averages.
Former Sixer Hersey Hawkins was named the Trail Blazers’ player development director, according to The Oregonian.
The folks over at MVN made a prediction on the Sixers’ upcoming season. It will hardly surprise you that the prediction is some more mediocrity for the Sixers. Here’s what they have to say: “I’m not sure they’ll be able to hit the 41-win mark again this year, but they should be close. … look for Philadelphia to just sneak into the playoffs this season – and have yet another first round exit.”
