Sixers open pre-season tonight

October 6th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |

The Philadelphia 76ers open up the pre-season tonight against the Toronto Raptors in (the other) London (Canada).  Then tomorrow they play the Raptors again but in Toronto.  You’ve heard of a home-and-home, where you play a team at home and on the road in back-to-back games.  I guess, you could say this is a road-and-road.

In any event, the Sixers are ready to beat up on others — not themselves.  At practice Monday, play got a little heated.

We got a little physical. . . . It kind of got ugly out there, so, yeah, we’re ready to play someone else,” said Brand, per Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer.  “I’ve felt very strong, healthy, no lingering hamstrings, tendinitis, little things that pop up in two-a-days for guys.  I was prepared and made it through without any hits at all.”

Brand, who said he’s now 100 percent healthy, has looked quicker in practice and I’m curious to see how it will translate to real (or almost real) games.

Sixers forward Thaddeus Young said, “… The other team was beating us up a little bit and I said, ‘I hope y’all do this against the other team.’ It’s going to be great, finally going out there in game mode and game feel, simulating game stuff.”
