Saturday Night Links

November 7th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |

The Sixers are five games into the NBA season and have won 60 percent of their games.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is they’ve been absolutely blown out by the really good teams (Orlando and Boston) that they’ve played thus far.  And perhaps just as bad is the fact that they have could have easily lost to the Knicks, who took the Sixers to overtime, and the Nets, who are winless and were playing without Devin Harris.  That said, as awful as they looked doing it, the Sixers did beat the Nets last night.

In addition to missing Devin Harris, the Nets were also without five other players: Yi Jianlian, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Tony Battie, Keyon Dooling, and Jarvis Hayes.

A positive from last night’s game was Lou Williams’ performance — 18 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and no turnovers.

With Marreese Speights and Jason Kapono as the first guys off the bench, coach Eddie Jordan says he’s still not sure which “small” is going to be “The Guy” first off the bench.  “That’s going to come from Willie, from Jrue, from Royal, from Rodney. And some of it is going to be matchup, but if you distinguish yourself as ‘The Guy,’ then that’s going to be the rotation.”

Surprisingly one guy who spent a lot of time on the bench last night was Elton Brand.  He wasn’t in foul trouble and he didn’t appear to be injured.  Brand only played 19 minutes and sat for the final 17:23.

Here’s a dunk from Andre Iguodala over Terrence Williams in last night’s game:
