Sixers end losing streak
December 15th, 2009 | by Kevin Hanson |The Philadelphia 76ers have ended their 12-game losing streak with a win over the Golden State Warriors last night. With LeBron and the Cavs coming to Philly tomorrow night, it may be a short-lived winning streak, but, hey, a win is a win…
One of the worries about bringing Allen Iverson back to Philly was the reduction in the role that was expected for rookie Jrue Holiday, the NBA’s youngest player. Last night, both started and Jrue was second on the team in minutes played (38:55).
And Holiday played well — 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
To make way for Holiday to join the starting lineup, the $80-million man was moved back to the bench.
“When you look around at other teams, yeah,” [Elton] Brand said. “It’s like, no disrespect, but (Golden State’s) Mikki Moore gets the start and I don’t. Not that he’s not a good player, but, definitely.”
Brand played only 16+ minutes, but he finished with 11 points and seven rebounds (including five offensive boards).
Coach Eddie Jordan says the move (Brand to the bench) was due to wanting a smaller lineup — and not Brand’s play.
“Just mostly about the small lineup,” Jordan said. “Elton does a good job coming off the bench at five. I hate changing the lineup, I hate changing it a lot. I think you have to show some confidence in the people that you start.”
Granted, Thaddeus Young had a great game (26 points, 14 rebounds) at the four. But should Brand only play 3 seconds more than Willie Green?
