That’s Amar’e, 4-game winning streak, and more…
February 7th, 2010 | by Kevin Hanson |After overcoming a second-half, double-digit deficit against the Rockets last night, the Sixers have extended their season-high winning streak to four games with a 102-95 victory. In addition, the Sixers overcame a 36-10 run by the Rockets that included an 18-0 stretch.
Thaddeus Young, who was seven of ten from the field, led all Sixers in scoring with 17 points off the bench. Houston guard Aaron Brooks, who finished with 34 points, led all scorers.
After shooting 15 of 41 in a five-game stretch, Young has made 15 of 19 shots in the past two games.
And Samuel Dalembert has extended his streak of double-digit rebound games to 14. From a fantasy perspective, I still believe he’s worth pursuing in a trade if you’re in need of rebounds and blocks as Sammy tends to be under-appreciated based on his fantasy production.
Allen Iverson missed his third consecutive game due to his daughter’s illness. Speaking of the team’s recent success (without A.I. in the lineup), coach Eddie Jordan said, “I don’t know that we’re learning something without him, just trying to find a way to play and generate what we have to do: good defense, quality possessions offensively. I just haven’t read into what we’ve done without him and why.”
Despite their horrible start, the playoffs aren’t out of reach thanks to playing in the Eastern Conference. At 19-31, the Sixers are currently the 10th seed and 4 1/2 games behind the Heat (8th seed) and Bucks (9th seed) and 5 1/2 games behind the Bulls (6th seed) and Bobcats (7th seed).
Earlier in the week, Andre Iguodala said, “It might be a big hole, but in the past I thought we had the talent to do it, but we were expected to lose. I think with this group, we have a little bit more talent and know what we can do. We have to go out there and do it.”
The trade rumor du jour for the Sixers involves Phoenix power forward Amar’e Stoudemire (and potentially Leandro Barbosa). According to the latest rumor, the Sixers would ship Iguodala and Dalembert to Phoenix. As Tom Ziller of FanHouse points out, the Sixers would be swapping their best two defenders for two guys that don’t play much defense.
Mike Sielski of the Bucks County Courier Times believes that dealing Iguodala would be a mistake. Unless they are getting fair compensation in return, it doesn’t make sense to me to unload Iggy. The Sixers have been playing better defense lately, but shipping Dalembert and Iguodala out of town would quickly halt that.
Iguodala says about being the subject of trade rumors: “I think I’ve always known how my game is seen across the league. I think I’m one of those guys who gets a lot more respect from my peers than those who don’t know that much about basketball, so I think that’s the good part. I’m ready for whatever – I don’t look at anything as a negative.”
Before the NBA All-Star Break, the Sixers will host the Timberwolves on Tuesday and visit the Raptors on Wednesday. The T’Wolves are 13-38 while the Raptors are 27-23.
